Design: Ethnic kilims for your home...

Hello everyone!

Have you noticed how handmade woven rugs, called kilims, have simply dominated the interior design world these days? I've loved them from the very start because I use them in my home everyday, partially because my husband's father is a Turkish rug and kilim expert. He comes across some really amazing ones at times, and the next we know we have a new rug or kilim added to our collection at home... Lucky us!

Normally I'm not very fond of too much color and pattern in my home, but having a whole sofa or even just an ottoman upholstered in a kilim could be quite delightful...Here are some ideas I've brought together for you that use this ethnic rug in every way possible: on the floor, on the bed, sofa, or as pillows and cushions.

Lovely furniture and lots of ideas at this lovely Norwegian website, slettvoll.

Kilims add warmth and texture, along with color to any space in your home, above, via edenportland.

How about a whole sofa covered in kilim? Such a bohemian idea! Paired with modern elements, such as the white sofa and coffee tables, the kilim pattern adds color to this otherwise monchromatic loft, found here.

Adding a kilim to your kitchen can really make a statement, above, from stylecarrot.

The sofa upholstered in a dark striped kilim rug, and the chair above in vivid colors combine modern design with ethnic elements beautifully, both from anthropologie.

But if you're scared to use color, you can find it in more subtle designs, even in black and white:

Used as pillows on your sofa, cushions on the floor, or as an ottoman to rest your feet, it's easy to see how kilims can be so versatile in any home! Lovely kilim ideas found here.

Hoping to have inspired you to use more ethnic and bohemian style by adding kilims into your home decor, too.

Have a wonderful Friday!
